Thanks to the Advanced Roadmaps add-on, Jira Premium users have the ability to set up an level of hierarchy higher than an Epic : an Initiative.

Initiatives are meant to associate several Epics under their scope, with a link called "Parent Link". In a usual process, this parent link must be initialized manually each time a new Epic is created, in order to associate it to an Initiative.

Thanks to Elements Copy & Sync, Jira users can automatically create Epics from an Initiative and link them in one click, thus saving time on this repetitive task. Once this is done, everything can be synchronised between the Initiative and its Epics, including fields, comments and attachments.

In this example, we will create an Epic from an Initiative with the key INI-1.

This guide explains how to configure your recipe so that a "Parent link" is automatically created between INI-1 and the Epic created from it.

A recipe called "Create Epic" has been created, activated, and is available on issue INI-1.

This recipe must have the Issue Type "Epic" in its Target tab.

1 - As a Jira administrator, go to the "Elements Copy & Sync Cloud" administration and click on Recipes in the navigation bar.

2 - In the Recipes listing page, select "Create Epic" in the Active Recipes list.

3 - In the Recipe configuration page, click on the Target tab.

4 - In the "Monitoring" section, use the Create a link to source issue field to select "Has parent".

5 - Click on the Save button.

6 - Open issue INI-1 and trigger the recipe from it.

With this configuration, Copy & Sync creates an Epic and automatically links it with INI-1 with a "Parent link".

It is then possible to synchronise INI-1 and its Epic, depending on what is configured in the recipe.
