Dependencies - "Circular dependency detected with field" error

Symptoms

In Element connect fields configuration, you have this error message. The message is also displayed while editing or creating an issue.

This error is displayed because you have several Element Connect fields that reference each other in a circular way.

To make it short, two fields cannot reference each other or Elements Connect would be unable to process the dependency.

You need to break this dependency. The error message displays the name of the problematic parent.

This can sometimes be tricky to find out where the loop is, in that case the best start is to draw a dependency graph.
