Copy an issue and all its subtasks

The need: clone issue subtasks in Jira Cloud

As a Jira administrator, you want to automate as many steps as possible so that your users don't waste time on repetitive tasks. In various use cases, you may want to often reuse the exact same sub-tasks for a given issue.

The solution: activate subtask copy with Elements Copy & Sync

With Elements Copy & Sync, you can copy and issue and all its subtasks in one click. This way, you will not have to recreate each sub-task one by one for identical needs.

Tutorial

In this example, we will escalate an issue with the key SUP-1, which contains two subtasks SUP-2 and SUP-3.

This guide explains how to configure your recipe so that when SUP-1 is copied, the new issue contains copies of SUP-2 and SUP-3 as well.

Prerequisites

A recipe called "Escalate ticket" has been created, activated, and is available on issue SUP-1.

Configuration steps

1 - As a Jira administrator, go to the "Elements Copy & Sync Cloud" administration and click on Recipes in the navigation bar.

2 - In the Recipes listing page, select "Escalate ticket" in the Active Recipes list.

3 - In the Recipe configuration page, click on the Content tab.

4 - In the "More" section, enable the Copy subtasks option.

5 - Click on the Save button.

Result

With this configuration, when a user applies the "Escalate ticket" recipe from issue SUP-1, Copy & Sync will automatically create two subtasks in the copy of SUP-1 which are identical to SUP-2 and SUP-3.
