01 - Setup your configurations on the Cloud

Your first step is to start preparing your Elements Connect configuration on Cloud.

After the Migration planning phase, you should have a clear understanding of the available field types on Cloud and have familiarized yourself with the main differences between Data Center (DC) and Cloud environments.

It’s now the time to start creating your data sources and fields on Cloud as Elements Connect is currently not compatible with JCMA.

Step 1 : Install Elements Connect on your Jira Cloud instance

  • Install Elements Connect on your Jira Cloud instance following this tutorial

  • Install Elements Connect Helper app which is a free app that complete Elements Connect (for more details about the Helper app, please refer to this tutorial).

We advise to install both Elements Connect app and the Helper app as most probably they will be needed when creating Connected custom fields.

Step 2 : Create your Elements Connect configuration

Before starting this phase, we recommend you go through the Migration Planning phase to have a clear understanding of available options on the Cloud, analyze your Data Center configuration and check missing functionalities (if any) and how to workaround them .

Create a data source

You will need to re-create the data sources you had in Connect Data Center manually on the Cloud.

👉 All details about data source creation here.

Create Connected fields

We will remind you that it’s crucial before creating the new Connected fields on the Cloud to have a clear understanding of different available fields types, understand their capabilities comparing to what we have in Elements Connect Data Center, and be aware of the limitations (if any).

We strongly recommend to create fields and test them carefully before the migration. Why? Please refer to this FAQ.

After the Migration Planning phase, you should have now analyzed your Connect Data center configuration so you’re ready now to re-create the fields on the Cloud.

But should you create a Connected Custom Field or Connected Item to replicate your Data center configuration? Here is a table that will guide you on which field to choose based on your Data Center field type.

Connect Data Center vs. Cloud field type matrix

We encourage you to use Connected custom fields whenever it’s possible.

CF = Connected custom fields

CI = Connected items

DC = Data Center
